2nd Beach Match- 16th November 2008 - November 17, 2008
Green Lisa P Kate P Davey B
Light Blue Paul P Gary Sheila McIntosh
Orange Chris G10 Sally Andy
Blue Abi Jacqui Will W
Green easily beat orange in the first chukka, it was tough going for Chris who has arrived back from exerise in Kenya, so the beach must have seemed pretty chilly. The second chukka saw light blue beating dark blue to set up the final. The wooden spoon went to dark blue, who were beaten in the third chukka by the orange team. The final, was an exciting encounter between light blue and green, with Paul resorting to splashing the opposition whenever the ball neared water. However, green held their nerve to claim a great victory. This now leaves Kate and Lisa heading the beach championship at this early stage. The next match will be the 30th November, at 1pm.

First ABI Challenge 2008/2009 Season- 2/11/2008 - November 5, 2008
VYPC Green Lisa Kate Gary Robinson
ABI White Richard Jones Sally Donaldson David Baarda David Parker
ABI Blue Andy Gaddas Will Wilkinson Jacqui Stride Sheila McIntosh
The first round match saw close competition between white and blue result in a 2-1 victory to the whites. The second round saw a comfortable 3-0 victory for VYPC green, setting up a final between green and white. The weather proved decisive in this final as whites going downwind could not keep cpntrol of the ball, and greens struggled to move it towards goal, the drawn out battle resulted in a 0-0 draw which saw greens victorious on goal difference against blue. The villains of the match were Richard Jones, who missed an open goal, and David Baarda who resorted to unashamed violence towards Kate!!!

NEC Bowl- 28th September - October 14, 2008
NEC Paul Piddington Gary Robinson David Baarda Bradley Birmingham David Jackson
ABI Abi Watts Kate Parks Lisa Piddington Will Wilkinson Rich Jones Sally Donaldson
A brilliant match to end the season saw the teams drawing 6-6 at full time with good goals being scored by Gary Robinson to close the gap in the final chukka. This lead to a dramatic penalty shoot out which saw a whole round of penalties still leave the teams tied. The second round, of sudden death penalties, saw NEC emerge as victorious after a dramatic miss by villain of the day Richard Jones. Many thanks to Gary Robinson for sponsoring this cup.

Grainger Appleyard Ladies Match- 27th September - October 14, 2008
Pink Kate Parks Lisa Piddington Emma Baarda Sophie Tompkins Sara Jackson

An excellent ladies only match saw an in-form Abi Watts take all her chances and scoreing 5 goals to pinks 2 goals. Abi's Pelotta was in top form also and was voted best playing pony. Best turned out was the Baarda's Paletta, and best six legs, not surprisingly was Kate and Sugar. Many thanks to Sally Donaldson for all her prizes and we look forward to next years ladies matches.

Essence Blue Kate Parks Lisa Piddington Sally Donaldson
Stride Pink Abi Watts David Baarda Gemma Dransfield Jacqui Stride
Stride Brown Paul Piddington Will Wilkinson Sarah Jackson
The final evening game saw Blue and Pink equally matched and drawing 1 goal apiece in the first chukka. Blue and Pink then put an out of form Brown team ("Will! Go to goal!") to the sword, which allowed Blue all three points, by scoreing most goals. Many thanks to Jacqui Stride for sponsoring these six evening matches, and congratulations to Kate for amassing the most points of the season.

Parkinsons in the Park- 31st August 2008 - September 23, 2008
ANC Guy Robertson David Jackson Jacqui Stride Will Wilkinson Abi Watts Chris Bower Sally Donaldson Andy Gaddas Nicola Burrows
JCT600 James Robertson Kate Parks Bradley Birmingham Gary Robinson Katie Fanthorpe Richard Jones David Baarda Rachel Cooper Lisa Piddington Ryan Mooney
The biggest match of the season saw a capacity crowd fill both sides of the polo ground, and with all the players fired up a great game ensued. New sponsors JCT600 playing for the first time at VYPC showed considerable nervousness in front of goal, missing endless oppourtunities to take the lead in this match. ANC held their nerve and were never headed, the closest JCT600 got was to level at half time 3-3. ANC ran out worth winners 7-5 and special mention to Guy Robertson who played a key role in driving ANC forward. Many thanks to Ann-Marie Jackson and Bill Birmingham for promoting this worthwhile charity match.

Essence Healthcare Kate Parks Lisa Piddington Richard Jones Ryan Mooney
Stride Electrical Brown Sally Donaldson Paul Piddington Gary Robinson Will Wilkinson Jacqui Stride
Breast Cancer Pink Andy Gaddas Abi Watts Katie Fanthorpe Sara Jackson Rachel Cooper
Following a week of rain we were delighted to play the Air Ambulance Cup on grass. The first round saw a more than comfortable win by Essence, beating Pink by 5-1. The second round saw an amazing fight back by Brown to beat Pink by 6-5 1/2, with Gary Robinson and Will Wilkinson linking up well to score 3 goals in their last chukka. This set up a final between Essence and Stride that saw a well organised Essence team control the match and despite Ryan Mooney missing 3 open goals, the silverware was clinched by a last minute Richard Jones' goal. Blue therefore take 3 points, Brown 2, and the Pinks collect just 1, with just 3 matces left before the end of season.

VYPC vs. Toulston- Saturday 30th August -
VYPC Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington Kate Parks Abi Watts James Robertson Sally Donaldson Andy Gaddas Will Wilkinson
Toulston Gareth Gaunt Glynnis Coates Liz Hague August Atkinson Rita Messenger Rachel Cooper Matt Cooper
This was the first playing of the inter-club challenge and took place at Toulston's beautiful Tadcaster grounds. The five chukka match proved every bit as exciting as the players had anticipated. However, VYPC took an early lead and never relinquished it. Good organisational skills from the young players proved too much for the local team and the eventual score of 7-3 was a fair reflection of the match. Many thanks go to Gareth Gaunt for both the invitation and his constructive captaincy and umpiring. We very much look forward to playing this fixture again next season.

August Stride Electrical- 27th August - August 28, 2008
VYPC Green Rachel Cooper David Jackson David Baarda Will Wilkinson
Yellow Chris G10 Kate Parks Richard Jones
Pink Abi Watts Lisa Piddington Sally Donaldson
Blue Paul Piddington Bradley Birmingham David Parker
A very competitive evening match saw a well balanced green pick off the favourites pink in round one. Yellows easily beat a very novice blue, with Bradley playing his first club match, setting up a final between green and yellow. Despite being favourites yellows were defeated by a well organised greens who capitalised on a couple of simple yellow errors. This allowed greens to take all 4 points, yellows 3. Pinks easily overran blues to take 2 points, leaving blues with a 1 point wooden spoon.
The club championship is closer than ever after Sundays polo in the park result, we shall reveal the placings!!

VYPC vs. Leadenham- Sunday 24th August - August 28, 2008
VYPC Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington Kate Parks Abi Watts Chris G10 Will Wilkinson David Baarda Sally Donaldson Andy Gaddas
Due to heavy rain this fixture was moved from Leadenham to John Tinsley's Branston ground. Billed as a beginners match, VYPC were slightly overwhelmed to be facing 1,0 and -1 opposition. However, never daunted, VYPC proved both well organised and creative. Chris G10 scored the goal of the day with a mid-air stop and volley through the posts.
The five chukka match proved close throughout with VYPC only half a goal down with just one minute left to play, and unfortunately Hero Suzuki broke clear wilst VYPC were relentlessly pushing for a last goal and stole the match. We very much look forward to repeating this fixture next year, and our thanks go to James for providing the hospitality.

Yellow Paul Piddington David Parker
Orange Rachel Cooper Will Wilkinson
Red James Robertson Sally Donaldson
Green Andy Gaddas David Baarda
Light Blue James Robertson Jacqui Stride
Blue Lisa Piddingon Abi Watts
Six teams fought out an arena hunt cup due to torrential rain making the polo field unsafe. Goal difference meant all the teams had to score as many as possible in the first round which lead to a final between yellow and surprisingly, light blue (Jacqui Stride scored two amazing goals to secure the final slot). The second round results distributed the points as follows: orange- 1 point, blue- 2 points!!!, green- 3 points, red- 4 points, light blue- 5 points, yellow- 6. A good crowd enjoyed a BBQ after the match, and our thanks go to Sally and Jacqui for all their hard work.

Inter-Hunt Cup- 17th August 2008 - August 19, 2008
York and Ainsty South Ben Green Ollie Beckerlegge Rachel Beaumont
The Grove and Rufforth Andy Gaddas Abi Woods Michael Tomlinson
The Sinnington Kerry Edwards Sally Donaldson David Parker
Bramham and Badsworth Peter Turland MFH Sally Prescott Joe Vickers
After an initial lesson to get the teams familiar with basic rules and technique, the competition began for the 2008 hunt cup. The South comfortably beat the B & B and the Sinnington beat the Grove and Rufforth. The final between the South and Sinnington saw a close battle, however, the Beckerlegge/Green combination proved too strong and the South held on for victory. The wooden spoon went to the B & B, however, as the only Master of Foxhounds, a special mention should go to Peter Turland for being such a good sport. This cup in its third year is going from strength to strength and we look forward to even more teams competing in 2009. South Hunt Committee member Elizabeth Beckerlegge is pictured here presenting the Trophy.

Stride Brown Milo Watson Nicola Burrows Ryan Mooney Sally Donaldson David Jackson
A good crowd came to watch the Tribella trophy being played for in aid of the Sancton church bell tower. The above three teams competed for this super trophy with pink immediately defeating brown. VYPC yellow further dampened browns day, resulting in their one point for third place. A very close final two chukkas saw a well organised all girl pink team play good open four-man polo and a worthy victory to claim the trophy. The pink girls claim three points, yellow take two. Photo shows the Rev. Linda and Jim Rickett presenting the trophy.

Conservative Cup- 3rd August 2008 - August 14, 2008
Essence of Healthcare Blue Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington Abi Watts Kate Parks Matt Cooper Ryan Mooney
Stride Pink Milo Watson David Baarda Sally Donaldson Andy Gaddas Katie Fanthorpe Will Wilkinson David Jackson
Due to demand this match was played over 5 chukkas creating a captains overlap. This allowed pinks, captained by Milo to gain a significant lead in the first chukka when Blue's captain was umpiring. After very competitive polo the last chukka left the Blue's requiring 8 goals to win!!! Given the 7 minutes Blues needed to score more than a goal a minute to stand any chance of winning and miraculously with just 30 seconds left,Blues had a chance to win the match, unfortunately their last attack was sucessfully defended by Katie Fanthorpe to run down the clock. Pinks take the 2 points, leaving blues with 1.

VYPC Yellow Paul Piddington Richard Jones Ryan Mooney Sally Donaldson David Baarda
VYPC Green Abi Watts Lisa Piddington Kate Parks Chris G10 James Robertson Matt Cooper Sarah-Rebecca Dernie
ANC Red Milo Watson Nicola Burrows Rachel Cooper Will Wilkinson Andy Gaddas Sarah Jackson
An excellent eighteen man entry provided great sport for the fourth Stride Electrical Wednesday evening challenge. With the league championship hotting up between three lady players, points were eagerly fought for. Unfortunately for yellow, they proved ineffective against green and red, and only collected one point. Greens proved slightly more effective in claiming two points, but the champions were ANC, taking all 3 points. The next Stride electrical is on 27th August.

On a glorious day a very large crowd came out to view our demonstration match in the beautiful parkland of Burton Constable Hall. Two teams enjoyed a competitve match on an excellent playing surface, allowing for fast, exciting polo. Goals were traded creating a 6-6 draw in the dying seconds of the last chukka. However, ANC, with a shot to win missed the goal, allowing Stride to charge down for a last gasp goal.
Many thanks to all those who took part.

Stride Brown Paul Piddington Jacqui Stride Nicola Burrows Rachel Cooper Gemma Dransfield Katie Fanthorpe
VYPC Yellow Lisa Piddington Kate Parks Chris Gerskowitch James Robertson Andy Gaddas
Grainger Appleyard Milo Watson Sally Donaldson Liz Spurdens Will Wilkinson David Jackson
Despite heavy rain, a large crowd enjoyed a sit down meal and a six chukka polo match for the York Against Cancer Charity. The ground held up brilliantly, allowing fast open polo. The first two chukkas saw a well organised VYPC beat Grainger Appleyard. The next match brought Stride Brown into the action, who, starting cold, were beaten by Grainger Appleyard. This set up a final two chukkas between Stride and VYPC with Stride needing to win by two clear goals. With good defensive play by James and Chris attempting to shut down Pauls attacks, Stride found it very difficult to score. However, with the last play of the match Paul broke free from the throw in and scored with the last hit of the game.
Stride take 3 Championship points. VYPC-2, and Grainger Appleyard-1.
We very much look forward to playing this match again next year, many thanks to Mary for arranging the day.

June Stride Electrical- (25/6/08) -
Blue Abi Watts James Robertson Kate Parks Lisa Piddington
Green Milo Watson Andy Gaddas Sally Donaldson Will Wilkinson
Yellow Paul Piddington Katie Fanthorpe David Baarda Gemma Dransfield
Perfect weather created an excellent playing surface for what turned out to be a fast competitive interclub match. Yellows comfortably beat green but as it turned out later, not comfortably enough as the blues positively annihilated them. This set up a final between blue and yellow that was always going to be a close fought match. Blues had to be favourite with all the players in top form and new player James showing excellent potential. Paul chose to play a youngster and with 30 seconds left on the clock was winning by 1 goal. However, a superlative run from end to end, involving the whole team saw a last second match drawing score by Kate. Paul foolishly thought a penalty shoot out left the yellows favourites, however, legal eagle Lisa noted goal difference from the earlier match gave them victory without need for penalties. A final thought goes out for cannon fodder Gemma who managed to absorb 2 beautifully driven clearances by her captain!! I fear large bruises to follow!!
Maximum 3 points go to blue, 2 points to yellow, and 1 to the wooden spooners green. We all eagerly anticipate the midseason championship table results.

Despite heavy rain on the Saturday and strong winds on Sunday all the ladies were fired up for this first all girl match. We had players from the Berkshire, Lincolnshire, Warwickshire and Beverley join our Yorkshire stalwarts to do battle. The first chukka saw no goals, second chukka blues went into a 2-1 lead, but from then on it was all pink. Abi Watts scored 2 breakaway goals and despite a last minute regroup it ended 4-3 to red. There will be another ladies match on Saturday 27th September. Photograph shows the victorious Pink/Blues receiving their trophy.

Patrington Cup- 15th June 2008
ABI Paul Piddington Will Wilkinson Sally Donaldson Richard Jones David Jackson Liz Spurdens
Pink Ladies Lisa Piddington David Baarda!! Abi Watts Andy Gaddas!! Chris Gerskowitch!! Jacqui Stride
Despite the showery conditions, the players enthusiasm wasn't dented as valuable championship points were up for grabs in this afternoons Patrington Cup. Following the match draw, Richard Jones' ABI started 2 goals down which they quickly set about recovering. By half time, Pink Ladies had managed to add another 2 goals to their tally, leading 4-2. A torrential downpour saw players dive for the shelter of the oak trees, and the second half was restarted with ABI breaking back immediately. With dying seconds to go, Paul bashed a 'hail Mary' pass from the half way line, that found it's way through 7 sets of horses legs to score a match tying goal at 7-7, setting up the first penalty shoot out of the season.
Unfortunately for the Ladies, their nerve didn't hold and ABI won 3-2 on penalties to secure 2 championship points for the team.

A fast last chukka saw Milo and Paul making full use of the ground galloping from end to end with the final goal being slotted by Milo to win by 7 ½ goals to 7 in the last chukka. Maximum points go the ANC team members and we have one more match before the half way season points are totaled.

RAF Wg Cdr Mark Smith Fg Off Vicky Woodhead Gp Capt Tim Brown Sqn Ldr Martin Adcock
Another very tough match saw VYPC 2 goals down at the end of the first chukka, however with a change of personnel for the second chukka and the RAF relaxing we scored 4 unanswered goals to go into half time ahead. The battle continued with VYPC never surrendering the lead. An excellent win to VYPC against the odds. Our secret weapon on the day was Kate Parks and also recognition for Abi Watts who at 14 years of age played in the victorious 1st team.

VYPC Vs Rutland 3rd May 2008 -
Teams
VYPC Paul Piddington Steve Radford Lisa Piddington Kate Parks Abi Watts Will Wilkinson
Rutland Joe North Paul Girdham Martin Reason Sally Donaldson Andy Gaddas
Having picked the hardest team in the tournament on day 1, it was with some trepidation we kicked off the first chukka. Fast open play resulted in our more accurate attacking team finding the goal more reliably than Rutland leaving us ½ a goal ahead with less than a minute to play. Joe North had a 30 yard penalty to win what should have been an easy match for them however pressure and the Polo Gods conspired to miss!! We were in the Sunday Final!!

4th ABI Beach Challenge - 04/02/2008
Teams
ABI White Alistair Latham Sally Donaldson Andy Gaddas Will Wilkinson
ABI Blue Mark Siddle Lisa Piddington Gary Robinson
VYPC Red Paul Piddington Johan Ohlsson David Baarda
Blessed once more with beautiful weather ABI White played ABI Blue to start proceedings. Alistair was in top form having just returned from Argentina and overwhelmed Marks ABI Blues by 2 goals.
Blues fought back in the next match to beat Reds by 1 ½ to 1 in a shock result. David and Johan again finding the pace very fast.
In the last match Red needed to beat White by 3 goals and giving ½ a goal on handicap this was going to be tough.
Alistair was again in good form well supported by his 3 team mates and a crucial goal from Will Wilkinson and only 2 goals from Red meant that despite beating Whites the Reds had not done enough to win.
Many congratulations to ABI Whites.
The last ABI Challenge is 23rd March at 2.00pm.

Following the BBC\'s coverage of the ABI Beach Challenge we had the Daily Telegraph reporting on our beach match today. The weather was amazing with incredible sunshine and a perfect flat surface. ABI Blue who have won the last 2 matches quickly overwhelmed ABI White by 3 goals with Mark working closely with Lisa.
This led to Red entering the arena for the first time this season with Paul Piddington captaining 3 beginners. Their first chukka saw them narrowly defeat Whites setting up a final between them and the defending champions. In what can only be described as a very fast match the ex racehorses amongst the finalists showed their speed and again VYPC Red sneaked a close victory to put their name on the shield.

Snowmen Ryan Mooney Rachel Cooper Rachel Kellett
Kings Gary Robinson Will Wilkinson Richard Jones

The resulting penalties saw the Snowmen hammer all 3 through the posts knocking the Kings out of the contest.
The wooden spoon was therefore between Zorros and the Kings which was won convincingly 3-0 by the Kings. A fitting seasonal final saw a clash between the Santas and the Snowmen which was a battle of the youth. The Snowmen where all students and the Santas had the youngest member of the club. One of the strongest university Polo Clubs in the Country boasting 6 different teams came up to Vale of York Polo Club to challenge Durham University. The teams where: Nottingham – Sophie Ballard, Rosie Trousdell and Felix Ritchy, Durham – Jamie Pike, Emma Chapman and Tamara Huddleston.
A very well organised Nottingham team took an early lead against a Durham side with much less experience as a team. Jamie Pike who captained Durham worked very hard throughout the match and scored a consolation goal at the end but Nottingham proved too strong and finished 3 goals to 1.
We are at present trying to organise other university teams to continue the university challenge.

Yorvale Corporate Polo Day - 13/09/2007
Accountants, Solicitors, Property Developers and Estate Agents gathered at Houghton Hall for a Corporate Polo Experience. 16 eager to learn volunteers enjoyed both the beautiful surroundings and amazing weather to try their skills at polo.
4 teams had several challenges to compete against their fellow professionals all counting towards the eventual winner of this polo day.
Lunch was enjoyed in the Hall with Lord Manton\'s Butler Derek providing for everybody\'s requirements. To avoid drunken excesses his Lordships wine cellar was kept under lock and key.
The whole day culminated in a two chukka match between the 4 teams with Chris Digby\'s Blues coming out the eventual winners.
The day was rounded up with drinks and prize presentation at the local Red Lion in Holme on Spalding Moor followed by the guests enjoying evening chukkas with the members of the club.
Many of those taking part had never sat on a horse previously so as I state my company moto is “anyone can play polo”.

Universities Championships - 24/08/2007
University Championships
Many congratulations to Durham University for winning the University Polo Championships. Along with players from Leeds, York, London Vet School and Warwickshire Universities, Durham have been regularly coached by Paul Piddington at the Vale of York Polo Club and it is tremendous to see one of my teams win through.
Special mention to Jamie Pike of Durham for all his work in organising the Universities Lessons.

Pony Club Championships - 24/08/2007
Pony Club Championships
Many congratulations to the Beadale Pony Club from North Yorkshire for coming second in the National Pony Club Championships at Cowdray.
Paul Piddington has been coaching these children for the last 2 years and to beat the Beaufort in the semi-final must have opened everyones eyes to the strength and commitment of polo in the North. Special mention to 14 year old Abi Watts who has been playing her first season this year with the adults at VYPC who successfully hit a 60 yard penalty to win the match and this is in a team with 3 boys. WELL DONE ABI.

Conservative Cup - 24/08/2007
Essence of Health Care – Blue Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington / Rachel Cooper Katie Fanthorpe / Will Wilkinson Liz Spurdens
Stride Electrical – Pink Milo Watson Mark Siddle Matt Cooper / Sally Donaldson Jacqui Stride / Chris Bower
The new sponsors Essence of Healthcare provided a beautiful trophy to be played yearly for the Conservative Party Funds. A large crowd witnessed a very closely fought match with Essence winning 6 – 51/2 scoring the winning goal in the dying seconds of the last chukka. It was a excellent occasion with Dee and David of Essence Healthcare looking after their guests in glorious weather.
It was also the maiden match for brother and sister Matt and Rachel Cooper drawn in separate teams giving first blood to Rachel. I\'m sure there will be many more opportunities for them to clash mallets again. Special mention to Derek who helped to organise such a lovely day and many thanks to Lord and Lady Manton for opening up the Hall for tea and cakes afterwards.

June Stride Eletrical - 24/08/2007
Teams Stride Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington Jacqui Stride Will Wilkinson
ABI Richard Jones Mark Siddle Ryan Mooney Katie Fanthorpe
The worst flooding since records began has hit Yorkshire!! Our grounds are under water and our new sponsors ABI with member Richard Jones where disappointed at the weather conditions.
Paul Piddington devised a forty ball penalty challenge on the Wooden Horse as a replacement match. With 10 shots at goal per round using both forehand and backhand options the teams competed at the 30 yard penalty spot. Consistent ball hitting from the Stride Team meant a gradual increase in goals put more pressure on ABI. The final score: Stride 95 goals beating ABI with 75 goals creating what must be the biggest ever match winning score.

Patington Cup - 17/07/2007
Teams VYPC Yellow Paul Piddington Ryan Mooney / Nicola Thompson Katie Fanthorpe / Sally Donaldson
Stride Brown Milo Watson Lisa Piddington / Jacqui Stride Abi Watts / Will Wilkinson
Rain fell all day proving challenging for both the ground and the players. Stride Brown took advantage of their half goal handicap start scoring first putting immediate pressure on VYPC Yellow. Despite several scoring chances VYPC\'s attack failed to produce the goods. Most notably the miss of the season coming from Ryan Mooney who managed to shank a ball wide that was sat 1 metre away from the centre of the goal mouth. This pretty much summed up Yellow\'s afternoon and further goals from Brown\'s man of the match Jacqui Stride sealed a very wet victory.

Katie Roberts-Stride Trophy - 11/07/2007
Teams Pink Milo Watson Mark Siddle Ryan Mooney / Will Wilkinson
Brown Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington / Abi Watts Katie Fanthorpe / Sally Donaldson Katie Roberts-Stride
The second playing of the Katie Roberts-Stride Cup enjoyed fabulous weather with the grounds playing exceptionally fast. Team selection for this match created a girls versus boys challenge, which was always going to prove difficult for the Brown team. Giving half a goal to the Pinks proved costly as they scored first to put immediate pressure on the Brown Team. Despite heroic efforts by the Browns who where camped in the Pinks half for the majority of the match the ball simply refused to cross the goal line.
Mark Siddle played a pivotal role in securing an excellent victory for the Pinks and looks terrific value off his -2 handicap. It must be said that the two chukkas he played on Lightning did a lot of damage to the Brown effort. Many thanks to Katie Roberts-Stride and we look forward to playing the Cup next year.

Newby Hall - 12/06/2007
Teams VYPC Paul Piddington Sally Donaldson Chris Bower
Stride Electrical Lisa Piddington Abi Watts Jacqui Stride
This was our first tournament at be held in the beautiful Newby Hall grounds and we very much look forward to playing here again.
Despite Paul looking like the only gay in the village wearing a two sizes too small pink shirt he continued to play as best he could however the opposition proved too much and overcame what should have been a much stronger team.
Treading in a half time added a whole new dimension to polo when you consider that we followed the dancing JCB demonstration. The driver would have ended up in the tower had this happened at Windsor.
The weather was excellent bringing in good crowds to watch what was their first polo match in many cases. Queues of people followed each match having a go on the wooden horse. They certainly experienced how difficult hitting the ball can be.

Grey Hound Trophy - 12/06/2007
Teams: VYPC Yellow Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington / Abi Watts Richard Jones / Will Wilkinson
Stride Electrical Milo Watson / Mark Siddle Katie Fanthorpe / Jacqui Stride Toby Wilkinson / Sally Donaldson
Despite horrendous rain we were the only polo club to be playing on the grass in Yorkshire this weekend, which shows just how superb these grounds are at Houghton Hall particularly when you consider that after 4 chukkas there was no sign of any damage done.
The match provided new sponsors, The Grey Hound Trust with the opportunity of starting an annual fixture to promote their activities, but unfortunately on this occasion the weather drove away what could have been a good crowd of spectators.

RAF Vs VYPC - 12/06/2007
VYPC Vs RAF
After an amazingly dry April which left most polo grounds rock hard we were pleasantly surprised to arrive at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire to play on a fantastic surface. This must be the most underused polo ground in Britain.
Teams
VYPC Paul Piddington 1 Mark Siddle / Sab Gogna -2 Will Wilkinson / Katie Fanthorpe -2 Lisa Piddington / Sally Donaldon -2
RAF Joe North 1 Ft Lt Dave Black -1 Gemma Turner Wright -2 Ally Lee -2
Umpire: Martin Reason
This was always going to be a close battle and receiving half a goal on handicap was to prove critical. We exchanged goals throughout the match leading to a nail biting final chukka with the RAF leading by 4 goals to 3 ½. End to end play produced no goals until 16 seconds from the end Paul Piddington slipped a pass through to Mark Siddle just outside the RAF\'s 60 and with a cool head he ran the ball in to win in emphatic style.
After several years of competition this was the first victory against the RAF and the celebrations went on into the night at a sumptuous dress dinner in College Halls.

Stride Electrical Brown Mark Siddle Will Wilkinson Jacqui Stride Chris Bower
Stride Electrical Pink Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington Nicola Thompson
VYPC Milo Watson Katie Fanthorpe Sally Donaldson Richard Jones
In this round robin american Brown beat VYPC by 3 1/2 goals to 1 with excellent 4 man polo. Pink beat VYPC by 1 goal setting up the final between brown and pink. Excellent defending by Brown maintained their 1/2 goal advantage to run out the surprise winners of this first challenge. They each receive 3 points, pinks 2 points and VYPC 1 point.
The next Stride Electrical Challenge takes place on 30th May 2007.
- 05/04/2007 @ 09:34 Patrick Wilkinson Beach Challenge 25th March 2007

VYPC Red: Mark Siddle (0) Chris Bower (0) Katie Fanthorpe (0) Will Wilkinson (0)
VYPC Blue: Alistair Latham (0) Emma Nicholson (0) Sally Donaldson (0) Andy Gaddas (0)
In glorious sunshine and with masses of kites to add to the drama we competed for this annual plate. First off Red played Blue and despite a valiant attempt by Mark Siddle to play the new horse Clive the kites proved to much and Blue\\\'s ran out 3 – 0 victors.
Second game saw Yellow play Red which proved a much tighter contest and ended with a penalty shoot out narrowly won by yellow after extra time.
The final between Yellow and Blue witnessed a fast end to end match however Alistair failed to find the posts allowing Yellow to win 3 – 1.
Apres chukka food and drinks where kindly provided by Jacqui Stride to round off another excellent season.

VYPC Vs Ranksborough @ Ranksborough - 11/05/2007
VYPC Vs Ranksborough @ Ranksborough (18th March 2007) Result VYPC 13, Ranksborough 12.
In weather conditions that changed from bright sunshine, gale force winds, pitch black cloud and driving snow we played a fast competitive four chukka match.
VYPC scoring first broke into a good lead which they never conceded throughout this brilliant match. Ranksborough had a desperate second chukka conceding four goals against the driving snow.
The change of ends at half time witnessed a Ranksborough fight back to end the 3rd chukka one goal down.
Special mention should go to Mark Siddle playing in his first competitive arena match, played an excellent defensive role as well as scoring a couple of crucial goals.
Saving his best pony till last Paul Piddington riding Victoria kept a rampant Ranksborough at bay scoring 3 goals a piece to seal the victory. A total of 25 goals scored in 4 chukkas shows just how good this arena is.

Fancy Dress Polo on Bridlington Beach - 23/01/2007
This Christmas Eve saw Fancy Dress Polo on Bridlington Beach for the Vale of York Polo Club. It was very unseasonal weather to see Santas, Elves, Fairies and Napoleons cantering round in the bright sunshine. The tournament was kindly sponsored by Guy Gosselin Spine Centre who provided a very festive trophy.
Four teams entered for what looked like a tough challenge. First up Guy Gosselins Napoleons played Matt Yeos Fairies. The Fairies fluttered around and came out the winners. Next, Paul Piddingtons Santas played Jacqui Strides Elves. The Santas gave the Elves a good run around and went into the final after some good goals where scored by the two Mrs Santas, Lisa Piddington and Abi Watts.
The Final saw the Santas clash with the Fairies and after a tough battle the Santas took 1st place. The wooden spoon was collected by the Napoleons as the Elves beat them 3 -0.
The polo was finished off by a fantastic festive feast and mulled wine kindly provided by Jacqui Stride.
If anyone is interested in joining us for some beach polo please phone Paul Piddington on 07788 426968. Ponies are available to hire.
Santas Paul Piddington Lisa Piddington Abi Watts
Elves Oliver Yeo Mark Siddel Jacqui Stride
